April 8th-14th, 2001In 1992, the United States Congress dedicated the second week of April as National Telecommunicators’ Week. This year recognition of these law enforcement professionals will be held April 8th-14th, 2001. The Orange County Sheriff’s Departments, Emergency Communication Bureau is comprised of radio dispatchers, 9-1-1 calltakers, and communication coordinators. These men and women provide a vital service to our communities and their peace officers. Radio Dispatchers are the “vital link” to the field deputies. They monitor field units activities, locations and respond to their individual requests. They are also tasked with providing communications and service to hundreds of staff members form the many components of this agency. 9-1-1 calltakers are the lifeline and sometimes, lifesaver to the public. Theirs is the calm and reassuring voice on the other end of the telephone during an emergency. Some emergencies require an immediate response by a deputy sheriff, or the Orange County Fire Authority to whom we forward all 9-1-1 calls for fire and paramedic service. The Communications Coordinators staff the Control One section of the Emergency Communications Bureau. These men and women serve the members of the Orange County Sheriffs Department, as well as every other Orange County law enforcement agency and several fire, public works and support agencies. Emergencies requiring police, fire or emergency medical services can occur at anytime. When an emergency does occur, the highly trained men and women of the Emergency Communications Bureau “Answer the Call” |
