The San Clemente Ocean Festival (SCOF) is a partnership event, hosted by the San Clemente Ocean Festival and the City of San Clemente. This event originated as competitions between lifeguards. In the bi-centennial year of 1976, it was decided to expand the competitions to include activities for families and friends. This is a fun, family event, with beach and water activities for everyone. Waterman and Waterwoman Competitions, open water swim, children's events, sand castle competition, and much more.

This event has grown to include activities such as an ocean art show (started in 1995), wood car exhibit (started in 1992), pancake breakfast prepared by our city lifeguards, children's pavillion, free clinics for bodysurfing and body boarding (started in 1999) and more. We work hard to live up to it's reputation and slogan "The Greatest Show On Surf," as titled by Dorothy Fuller, one of the originators of the event. Keep with tradition, we provide a quality athletic/family oriented event each year. Alcohol and tobacco sponsors are not permitted. In addition, we give grants to local organizations and scholarships to college-bound seniors.
