Note: Failure to comply with these instructions may result in delays in processing your application.

The following items/documents are required at the time of interview:

CCW Renewal Application Instructions:

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, CCW Licensing Unit is dedicated to serving the citizens of Orange County through the timely processing of your CCW Renewal Application. The following instructions intended to guide you through the renewal process to ensure the timely reissuance of your current CCW License.

We strongly advise you to begin the renewal process at least 3 months prior to the expiration of your current license. Failure to renew prior to the expiration of your license will require you to re-apply, pay additional fees, and cause significant delays in processing your application.

The following documents are required for all renewals:

  • Completed New CCW Application (One sided)
    • Good Cause statement
      • The OCSD requires CCW applicants to provide a Good Cause statement for the issuance of a CCW License (Please refer to OCSD Policy 218.3(f)1).
      • Complete the “Details of Reason” section on page 10 of the standard application.
      • Attach additional pages, if needed (A Word document, with your signature will suffice).
    • Supporting Documentation for Good Cause
      • Please provide all relevant and current documentation in support of your Good Cause Statement (i.e.: paystubs, bank statements, business licenses, real estate listings, police reports, restraining orders, etc.)
  • Complete Section 7 (pages 9 & 10) of the standard application
  • Your E-mail address and cell phone number printed on the top of the page #3 on your application.
  • Copy of Driver's License
  • Military ID and copy of orders or DD214 
  • A copy of 2 recent utility bills (In Your Name) showing residency in Orange County.

Once a decision is made on your renewal application, you will be notified via email of the next step in the process.

If you are no longer interested in maintaining your CCW License, please notify our staff and no additional reminder notifications will be sent to you.
