The La Pata Avenue/Camino Del Rio Extension Project is designed to complete the planned improvements for La Pata Avenue and Camino Del Rio, as identified in the County of Orange Master Plan of Arterial Highways and as shown in the figure below. The improvements will reduce congestion and improve regional mobility in South Orange County by providing a north-south alternative to Interstate 5 between Ortega Highway to the north and Avenida Vista Hermosa to the south.

The Project consists of three construction schedules which are as follows:
La Pata Gap Connector (Schedule A) - Completed Construct four new lanes, extending the existing La Pata Avenue from just south of Vista Montana to Calle Saluda
La Pata Widening (Schedule B) - Currently in Construction Widen La Pata Avenue from three to five lanes, one additional travel lane in each direction, from Ortega Highway to just south of Vista Montana
Camino Del Rio Extension (Schedule C) - Completed Extend Camino Del Rio, a four-lane roadway, from its existing terminus to the newly extended La Pata Avenue
The La Pata Avenue Extension Project Team is proud to announce the new Camino Del Rio Extension, which connects San Clemente's Forster Ranch community with the County's recently completed La Pata Avenue, will open to the public on Monday, January 9, 2017.
OCPublic Works contractor crews will perform a series of temporary traffic stoppages(each approximately 15-mins. in duration) at a specific location on La PataAvenue in order to install a new temporary crossing to allow large, heavyequipment and project vehicles to safely cross La Pata Avenue for access to projectsites.
OC Public Works contractor crews will need to perform a series of temporary traffic stoppages at two specific locations on La Pata Avenue in order to remove the northern most temporary traffic signal crossing that was previously installed.
