National Battery Day is a little-known, unofficial holiday that is observed on February 18, the birthday of Alessandro Volta, an Italian physicist and inventor of the electric battery in 1745. Although the day recognizes the value of batteries in our day-to-day lives, to OC Waste & Recycling (OCWR), the day provides a great opportunity to talk about old, used batteries and what OC residents should do with them. No. 1 is to keep them out of landfills.

February 9, 2017  Orange County Landfills Open for Business on February 13 and 20Orange County's landfills are open for business on Lincoln's Birthday--Monday, February 13 and Presidents' Day--Monday, February 20, 2017.

Landfills are closed on the following five holidays each year. 2017 dates for the holiday closures are shown below:
