The Position

Radio Dispatcher Trainee
The Radio Dispatcher Trainee receives on-the-job training in the techniques and methods of radio dispatching involving emergency public safety operations. The Radio Dispatcher Trainee is taught to handle emergency situations requiring independent judgments as to course of action where unprecedented situations may arise. The Radio Dispatcher Trainee works under relatively close supervision whereas the Radio Dispatcher is expected to work under limited supervision.

Radio Dispatcher
The Radio Dispatcher is the level of a fully qualified dispatcher of emergency public safety equipment and is required to monitor several public safety departments’ communications systems and provide dispatching coordination in operations concerning two or more of these departments. The Radio Dispatcher is required to handle emergency situations requiring independent judgment as to a course of action where unprecedented situations may arise.

Supervising Radio Dispatcher
This class is a first level supervisor in the Radio Dispatcher Series. Incumbents plan, develop, coordinate, supervise the work of subordinate Radio Dispatchers and participate in the operation of Sheriff-Coroner Emergency Communications.
