Sheriff's Special Officers at John Wayne Airport Receive Public Safety Award
A team of dedicated Sheriff’s Special Officers (SSOs) assigned to John Wayne Airport Police Services were recently recognized by the Orange County Taxi Administration Program with the 2012 Deputy Sheriff Steve Parsons Public Safety Award. This award is given to individuals who show an above average enthusiasm, professionalism, dedication to duty, and an overall desire to improve the quality of taxicab service in Orange County. These were traits that Deputy Parsons was known for during his enforcement and support of the OCTAP mission during his career.
The SSOs that are being honored are assigned to the OCTAP Compliance Team and use their special training at the airport to enforce OCTAP rules and regulations on a daily basis. They coordinate random OCTAP inspections at the airport and assist in several county-wide specialty inspections.
This committed team has issued more than one hundred OCTAP citations at the airport since its inception two years ago. Enforcement of OCTAP rules has ensured that taxicab companies operating at the airport abide by these much needed safety regulations and operate in a safe, clean and professional manner.
Congratulations to these committed officers! Pictured from left to right: SSO Michael Morris, SSO Alex Medina, SSO John Harkey, SSO Felipe Mejia, Sergeant Gary Tinoco, SSO Benjamin Coltharp, SSO Todd Calderon, SSO Erin Scheppmann and SSO Brian Bruns.
