2013 OCLEEAA Summer Academy
The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association (OCLEEAA) sponsored the 2013 Summer Explorer Academy at the Boys Scouts Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, from August 7 through August 11. The Explorer Academy simulates an abbreviated basic law enforcement academy. 142 explorers, from throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties, began the academy with 128 successfully graduating. OCSD Explorer Post 449 was strongly represented and proudly saw 19 explorers graduate at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy in Tustin, on August 11. Captain Robert Peterson and Sergeant Dan Daniels of the Community Programs and Services Division were in attendance. We would like to congratulate the following explorers from Post 449 for a very impressive showing in the awards categories:

OCSD Explorer Post 449 would like to thank Deputy Tony Aiello (Mission Viejo Police Services), Deputy Maria Bowman (Rancho Santa Margarita Police Services) and Deputy Alex Wong (Intake Release Center) who mentored, trained and monitored the explorers in their role as Explorer Academy Tactical Officers.
The Explorer Academy Graduation was held at the Sheriff’s Tustin Academy and Post 449 would like to thank Training Division Commander Captain Jon Briggs, Academy Bureau Commander Lieutenant Michael Peters and Tactical Sergeants Steve Simpson, Bert Copeland and James Guarneri for accommodating and assisting in making this Explorer Academy Graduation so successful.
Post 449 would like to also thank Lieutenant Cathy Irons, Sergeants Milton Thomas and Catherine Geary and Deputy Robert Davis from the Transportation Bureau for arranging OCSD buses to drive the explorers to and from the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.
We would like to thank Sergeant Randy Sterett (Hazardous Devices), Investigator Kevin Nadeau (Hazardous Devices), and Deputy Len Letze (Airport Division) for arranging and providing an excellent Hazardous Devices Demonstration. We would also like to thank Sheriff’s Communications for their excellent audio/visual work at the Academy Graduation.
