OCSD Personnel Change the Face of Men's Health

November (Movember) has arrived and it is time to change the face of men’s health. Staff from the Central Justice Center (CJC) have joined the team:  “A good idea right under your nose” and agreed to grow a moustache and help raise funds...find answers…raise awareness of men’s health issues. The growth of a new moustache sparks conversation, which in turn generates awareness and educates people on the health issues men face. Awareness and education prompts people to take action and change behavior, which is changing and saving lives today. During Movember, each moustache generates more than 2,400 conversations about men's health. In the US, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime making it the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men after skin cancer. In 2013, over 238,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and almost 30,000 men will die of prostate cancer in the US alone. A man is 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer. One new case of prostate cancer occurs every 2.2 minutes and a man dies from the disease every 17.5 minutes. $0 $0 •The incidence rates are double for African American men. If detected and treated early, prostate cancer has a 97 percent success rate. Despite these figures, the level of awareness, understanding and support for prostate cancer lags significantly behind that of women’s health causes. At the CJC we stand behind the moustache and we stand for change- to change the face of men's health all through the power of the Mo. Join us and sign up or donate for the men's health movement.
