Every 15 seconds in the United States there is a burglary taking place. If it happens to you, you lose more than your possessions. A break-in, even when you’re not home can have a huge impact on your and your family’s sense of safety and well-being. Here are a few tips on how to keep your home and your loved ones safe.

1. If you or a neighbor is approached by a person or group claiming to be doing some kind of service for the city or for a company and you were not made aware of it, it is always best to confirm with their employer.
2. When you are home, be aware of who you allow to enter your home.
3. When away, it is best to make your home seem as if you are present.
4. Always keep your home locked with valuables out of plain sight.
5. Consider using an alarm system.
6. Get to know your neighbors, look out for each other, or get involved in your own neighborhood watch program.
