Safety Tips - Pumpkin Carving Safety

It’s that time of year again to stock up on candy, buy the perfect costume and pick just the right pumpkin to carve! Carving pumpkins is just one of the many exciting activities associated with Halloween, but before you start carving, make sure to take extra precautions and follow these safety tips.

• Always carve your pumpkin in a well-lit area and on a solid surface.
• Make sure you can see well while carving, and leave the pumpkin on a table while cutting.
• Stick with using tools designed for carving pumpkins, instead of household knives.
• Adults should carve pumpkins for children or constantly be supervising. Another great option is for children to paint their pumpkins instead or carving.
• Use alternatives for candles in the pumpkin, this will decrease the risk of fire, opt for battery-operated candles or glow sticks instead.
Enjoy carving your pumpkins and don’t forget to decorate your porch with your creations on Halloween night!
